Petrified Forest Nat'l Park
Holbrook, AZ, March, 2009
We decided to take the scenic route back from Flagstaff to Tucson, and go through the Petrified Forest Nat'l Park. It was a terribly windy day, but this park shouldn't be missed. The crystalized forest is so well preserved that you can tell the difference between the inner wood fiber and the outside bark. There are areas of stone chips, as though the log had been chopped, that resemble normal wood chips so closely that you have to pick them up to tell that they aren't wood. It's a fascinating park, and one of Jess's favorite stops on the trip.
