Bavarian Christmas - Munich, Germany
December, 2012
We needed a good place to start out our journey, and since we wanted to get started as early in December as possible, it made sense to spend the holidays with friends. We headed to Munich to see our good friend Verena, who'd invited us to join her family for the Christmas holiday. Plus, we really wanted to see the famous Munich Christmas markets. We spent several days there in Munich to browse through the stalls, sipping Glühwein (mulled wine), and enjoying the brisk air. Then we headed to the nearby city of Rosenheim to spend a few days with her family, experiencing firsthand a German Christmas. We made sure to check out Salzburg Christmas evening, which was an experience, and also made a pilgrimmage to the famous monastery of Andechs, mostly to hike miles through woods to end up drinking huge glasses of beer. All in all, a great experience.
