The Surprising Country Of Taiwan
February, 2012

Taiwan was sort of a spur-of-the-moment decision for us; we wanted to get in an Asian country, but didn't have any firm decisions. Taiwan came up in a conversation, and so we went. The great thing about not having any expectations is that when a place is really superb, it is all the better because it's a surprise. Taiwan is a clean, bustling, fascinating country, with smooth public transportation, massive mountains and deep valleys, interesting people, and more. The night markets in Taipei were unforgettable, with more food on sticks than you could shake a stick at, and the hot pot restaurants stretched our bellies to capacity; indeed, Taiwan is a foodie's dream country. Outside the cities, the landscapes were beautiful, and we also made good friends there, having met some of the kindest people on our trip. It was a real pleasure, which is really a surprise to say.
