One of the interesting aspects of the hike was the abundanc of hemlock pine, which of course was a sad part of the area. There is a type of Asian insect that targets hemlocks, and kills them all off. All the hemlock in the area, and indeed in much of the US, have been infected, and in a few years there will be precious few hemlock forests.
