Highway 28 headed off directly from the campground I was staying in, the Turkey Creek campground, and since I'd never been along that stretch, I decided to check it out. I passed through a number of small communities, past motorcyclist bars hidden in the woods, and along Lake Cheoah, formed off of the Fontana Dam. It is a well-kept and little traveled secret that was quite relaxing and enjoyable to drive along. There was hardly any traffic and the views were awe-inspiring at times, looking off over valleys and the famously smoky hills.
