There is a definite icy kingdom that escapes most casual viewing of these environments. It's easy enough to glance and see a frozen river; it's a gift to see things on a level that is close to the ice, where the rock and the river meet on the neutral ground of the ice, where the canyons look deep and stark, where the smooth curves of the ice melt away the sharpness of the boulders.
