Elk and deer are common inhabitants in the Rockies, and are such regular visitors on my family's land that we rarely notice them. More surprising are the lynx that occasionally treks through, or the mountain lions that sometimes cause trouble, or perhaps finding bear droppings in the stone yard. Of course, there is always the prairie dogs, digging holes and destroying what they can.
